How does search work
Search in LogoSauce has kept as simple as possible. Basic search by default will search all logos and looks at Logo name, Brand name, Company name, Notes and Tags and display these sorted by published date (most recent first).
What can I do with advanced search?
Advanced Search lets you limit search to a particular category such as Final Artwork, WIP, Competition Entries, For Sale OR to search user profiles AND/OR to change the sort order to by Date, by Score or by Name
How do I view logo detail and a larger image?
Search for the Logo you want - click on the thumbnail image to view the Gallery/Detail page. then click the logo again to view the Lightbox image
How can I access original or source artwork?
LogoSauce does not store source artwork. However we ask users to add information about where you can find the source artwork for the logo they have listed. If the information is provided - it can be found on the gallery/detail page of each logo.
Failing that you can contact the user who published the logo by checking out the users profile.
How is the top 6 decided?
The Top 6 logos and Top 6 profiles are listed on the Top 6 page. The top 6 listing is based on the total score value only of each logo and profile. Logos will change position accordingly.
Top 6 profiles differ slightly in that the total score of a profile is made up of the total scores of all logos submitted under that profile. So the more logos listed with good individual scores will elevate a profile up the rankings.
Who can vote (rate) or comment on a logo
You must be logged in to vote. To login you must have created a free user account(user profile) by signing up.
What is the difference between score and ratings and how are they calculated?
"e;Score "e; is the combination of views and votes. Score is calculated as follows. Each view is worth 1 point, each Yum vote is worth 1 points, each OK vote is worth 0 points and each Yuk vote is worth -1 point.
Rating is the average vote - Yummy, OK or Yucky. Total rating is based on an average vote. Yum worth 1, OK worth 0 and Yucky -1 divided by the number of votes.
Therefore logos with lots of views but limited voting may rise up the rankings - but we argue that more views generally will be attributed to popular logos or logos of interest. Also note that a view is counted for visitors who are not logged on whereas Rating is only from logged in users (members).
What is the Favourites number?
Favourites is the number of users who have added this logo to their favourites list. You must be logged in to add to favourites.
How do I report an inappropriate listing or feedback ?
Click the REPORT link in the Feedback section of the detail page for any logo. Upon receipt LogoSauce will inspect the logo and take action where necessary.
What is Textile ?
Textile is a simple markup language becoming popular on many websites, so that you can style your entries without having to use HTML. We provide a link to a Textile guide.
How do I create a logon (user account)
Click the Sign-up button and complete a basic profile. You will be instantly logged in and a confirmation email will be sent to you. We then recommend that you complete a more detailed profile and upload your first logo.
Does it cost anything?
LogoSauce™ is completely free and we aim to keep it that way.
LogoSauce is funded by sponsors and possibly advertising - although we aim to keep any advertising to a minimum. What information do we ask for?
When you sign up for a user account, we ask for the following information:
Building a profile
LogoSauce helps you build a profile so that visitors and users of the site can see your work and find you.
To make the most of profiles you should complete a full profile by clicking View Profile and then Edit Profile (you should be logged on).
You can then provide optional information such as a Location, Country, Job Title and Website address. You can also upload a photo or avatar to replace the standard avatar and write a personal biography.
This will help visitors - sometimes potential new customers - see if they want to work with you.
What is Textile ?
Textile is a simple markup language becoming popular on many websites, so that you can style your entries without having to use HTML. We provide a link to a Textile guide.
Who can publish?
Anyone with a user account can publish or list a logo. The site is created primarily for designers but we also encourage brand owners and brand managers to publish their logos.
What can be published?
Logos, icons, labels and badges. LogoSauce is all about Logos (duh?) and brands. So if your design or artwork represents a brand or an idea then we'd like to see it. We only allow the uploading of standard web suitable file formats such as JPG, GIF and PNG. Vector files (e.g .ai and .eps) canot be uploaded - so you will need either the right file format to upload or suitable software and skills to create the right file format.
Brand owners might like to ask for assistance from their current design services supplier to assist with data preparation.
What file format and size shouldn't be uploaded?
A 640 x 480px sized JPG. GIF or PNG. file formats should be uploaded. LogoSauce will then create 3 sizes from your uploaded file (Thumbnail, Gallery and Lightbox).
To get best results upload a 640 x 480 px image as an RGB JPG file. This may require placing your logo onto a 640 x 480px canvas to get the best positioning of the logo on the final page or if you are listing a reversed or coloured background image. If your image is less than 640 x480 pixels the lightbox sized image will not be created. 320 x 240 pixels is the minimum acceptable size.
How do I publish?
Logon and click Upload, Select your logo file, fill in the meta data fields and add your own tags if required, then click upload.
Next - check your listing. You can upload a new version of the logo file if you wish by clicking the Edit Logo button. Note that if you load a new version of the logo - your score for that logo will be reset to zero.
What is RSS?
RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication and essentially provide an XML data feed that you can subscribe to for site updates.
Feeds are updated in realtime as logos, posts and comments are added to the system by users. LogoSauce will rely on RSS to provide updates to users rather than email - which we reckon is less intrusive and you stay in control of what information you get.
What RSS feeds are available on LogoSauce?
Feeds are available for :
How do I subscribe?
Throughout the site you will see an orange RSS feed icon. Clicking the icon will either load the feed into your feed reader application or allow you to save the feed. Feeds can also be used to populate external applications with data, such as Widget (Mac) or Gadget (Windows Vista).
We intend to release a widget and gadget at a later date.
Who are competitions for?
Anybody can start a competition - but we expect companies who need a logo designed for them are the likely founders of a competition. Companies starting a competition for a commercial logo will be asked to provide a suitable reward or prize for the winner. Anybody can submit a design to a competition provided they have a logon. Competition entries will be searchable and related to the designers profile and to the competition itself. The designer will own IP in the entry until it is selected as a winner. Once selected IP will pass to the Competition founder provided they front up with the promised reward.
Submit a competition entry
Submitting a logo to a competition is easy - just select Competition Entry at upload time and then select the competition from the drop down competition box on the upload form. Your entry will then be attached to the competition and subtitled with competition entry.
A link to the competition will be placed on the gallery/detail page
Vote on submissions
You can vote and comment on competition entries like any other logo. Logon and click the Rate button next to the logo or scroll to the bottom of the pge to comment and vote.
Who selects the winner?
The winner is selected by the competition founder entirely at their discretion. While LogoSauce users vote and comment on entries, generating a score for each entry - the highest rated entry will not necessarily be selected. We want to encourage great logo design and we think the LogoSauce user community can help make the choice easier. However we realise choosing a logo is often a personal preference. So no guarantees and please don't shoot the messenger. :-)
What happens when a competition closes?
The competition will remain visible however no new entries can be made against the competition
LogoSauce is Free - how do you fund it?
LogoSauce is indeed free. We rely on funding from sponsors/advertisers. We also want to ensure that sponsors are companies that users are likely to be interested in and will not accept sponsorship or advertising from inappropriate companies
Interested in sponsorship or advertising on LogoSauce?
If you're interested in sponsorship please contact David Vaassen dv.netwrk@gmail.com
What's your policy on advertising from Designers?
We want designers profiles and work to speak for themselves, therefore our policy is to not accept advertising or sponsorship from designers or design firms. This would taint the results of search by companies looking for designers based on work and profile.
It's a Designer Democracy - we want your work to speak for you - not Ads.
